Many Covers Monday: Throne Of Glass
Today we're looking at the many different covers of Throne Of Glass by Sarah J. Maas and choosing a winner!
After serving out a
year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes,
18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown
Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must
act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her
opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the
empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats
her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for
three years and then be granted her freedom.
Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.
Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

I read this book and hated it. Sorry.
Left: UK
Likes: It's a pretty cool cover, no doubt about it. The steel font is gorgeous and really compliments the ice blue tones of the artwork. The whole thing just screams badassery is about to happen.
Dislikes: No hate here, it's a great cover!
Right: US
Likes: I love the background, which just screams fantasy novel. And the swirly things next to the 'of'.
Dislikes: The girl. Celaena is supposed to her been working in the mines so I would expect some muscle definition, maybe some scars. This is just a pretty girl with a dagger. And really great hair.
Left: Romanian
Likes: Nothing. Sorry. I almost like the looking past the sword thing but Turkey (right) clearly already nailed that.
Dislikes: It really does look terrible. The images are right at the bottom leaving all that black and the font choice was not a good one at all. Nothing looks professional.
Right: Turkish
Likes: This is another cover that looks pretty badass. The girl is pretty like the girl above (Celaena is supposed to be), but I feel like this one could rip my throat out if she felt inclined.
Dislikes: I guess the broken glass border is a little weird.
Left: Dutch
Likes: I'm wishing so, so hard that I could read Dutch right now just so I could have an excuse to have this incredible cover in my shelves, and I don't even like this book. I love everything, from the outfit (I want the outfit) to the font and the green is just perfect.
Dislikes: Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Right: German
Likes: I love the art by Deviantart user Fetsch, it's the first thing my eyes are drawn to. And of course the font, which we saw a very similar version on the UK cover above.
Dislikes: I don't understand why the character person is shoved so far to left. UK pulled off having a whole person on the cover and fit the font in really well, I don't know why they didn't go down a similar route.
Winner
Oh man, I need that outfit. Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed. *sob*
I'm Dutch, so that gives me a reason to get this book *evil laugh*

ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the Dutch cover, so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteThe Dutch cover is my favorite too :) I originally picked up the series because of the US hardcover, even though they promote the paperback cover now instead :(
ReplyDeleteI've never seen the Dutch cover before now, but man, that cover is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI loved this book and I am for the Netherlands, so I am might pick this up, because yes this cover is gorgeous! Usually I hate Dutch covers.. So yeah, xD! I own the UK covers who I really like as well, especially together with the covers of book 2 and 3.
