Many Covers Monday: Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

This is a world divided by blood - red or silver. The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change. That is until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power. Fearful of Mare's potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime. But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance - Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

US/Bulgarian
The US cover is the main cover used around the world and I love it's simplicity. Sometimes you can use too much on a cover, especially fantasy. This tells enough of the story without overwhelming me. I also like the simplicity of the Bulgarian cover but I do find myself squinting at the text, it's too bright.

Finnish/German
The finnish cover is nice and simple but the placement of the author name almost makes it look like a title. I'm not a fan of covers that I could recreate quickly, I like there to be some effort made. The German over is pretty cool but I'm getting historical vibes rather than fantasy - it also looks like an Evanescence album cover.

Hebrew/Russian/Ukrainian
I'm getting Paranormal Fantasy from the Hebrew cover, it's a good cover but a little misleading. Also possibly spoilery? I haven't read the books yet and don't remember the lightning hands thing in the blurb. Russia is just... teenage medieval girl fights Dracula also bats. The Ukraining cover is my favourite of the three, I've started at it a lot while making this post and I'm just now seeing what's above her head - are those cameras or guns? I think cameras but that's seriously creepy. I love it.

  1. Even thought this a book I will probably never read (I'm not a big Fantasy person), I've always LOVED the cover of the US book. SO simple/pretty/creepy. The Ukranian cover is cool though-- I wouldn't mind more covers made in that style!

  2. Yeah, I definitely agree that sometimes, fantasy covers can just be excessive and the Red Queen cover is so simplistic and yet so powerful?? I think I also like the Finnish cover although I do prefer the white of the US and Bulgarian covers!!

  4. Wow I didn't realize how many covers this one had! I think I like the Finnish one, very simple but gets the message across.

  5. I like the German and the Ukranian covers the most. I agree with you that the Ukranian is the one that reflects the story the most. I also love the Russian cover despite the fact that it has nothing to do with what the book is about XD
