Weekly Update (03/03/2018)

Books Read This Week




 Whoops I accidentally read 6 books? Honestly it's been an incredible week for reading with not a single one of these books given a rating 3 or less, and two of them got 5 stars! I'm hoping I can repeat that next week. If you've been considering reading Paperfury's (or Cait's) book A Thousand Perfect Notes, just go order it or ask for an ARC because it is absolutely beautiful.


SNOW!!!???

The UK panicked bought milk this week as news of snow hit and when it did it was GLORIOUS. Look at my small human's tiny face, this is first experience of snow.


Unfortunately that was when the snow had just started and that night we got a good two foot of snow which is still quite high outside. Luckily I have a good neighbourhood and people are helping out with lifts to work and shovels.

Stacking The Shelves (27/09/2014) *zombie noises*


This week has been horrible, I've been walking round with a stomach bug like I'm about to turn into a zombie at any moment, so I might as well start acting like it. I finally got my ass in gear today and went outside for some fresh air... which seems to have cured me. I now have a ton of reviews to write but I haven't read much this week anyway, just The Raft. I have started Trial By Fire and I've nearly finished In The End though, which is terrible. Ergh.


Acquired This Week


For a sick person, I sure do acquire books. I've been waiting to get my hands on copies of Afterworlds and A Little In Love for MONTHS. Afterworlds spine is just amazing, I keep stroking it for no particular reason. A Little In Love is Eponine's story from Les Miserables and has inspired me to actually try and read the original book, because apparently I'm crazy.

Stacking The Shelves (20/09/2014)

This week was a lazier week for me. I got a section of my cross stitch project finished, finally finished 1984 and then just read a lot! I read two of my favourite books this year too, which was a nice surprise.


Acquired This Week
I was pretty surprised when I walked past a wool shop this week with Actual Books In It. Four bookshelves in fact filled with books to buy! And the books were only £1 each. After not a lot of digging at all, I found 3 young adult books that I've been wanting, and 3 that I've read that I wanted copies of.


I've read an enjoyed Ashes, but read the galley on NetGalley. Never read What's Left Of Me but I'm excited to own a copy! I love that freaky double face thing.


The UK books for Wither, Fever and Sever are all Ridiculously Large, and I've been wanting to swap them for new UK sized paperback editions for a long time - I still have an oversized copy of Sever but these look great!


*waves arms* I love these covers So Freaking Much. And the spines are so gorgeous I could lick them. Maybe.


Read This Week (Sat 13th - Fri 19th)


1984 felt like it took a century to read, I really detest that book. The rest of the books have been pretty great though, with both The Rain and Panic on my special shelves!

Stacking The Shelves (13/09/2014)

 
This week I've read less than I wanted to, because I've been spending the past 3 or 4 days battling with 1984. Being a huge fan of Dystopia, I was almost sure that I would love this book but unfortunately I'm having a ton of problems with it and have almost DNF'd it twice.
 
However, I did get to binge read The Hunt series at the beginning of this week (Sat onwards)! It's a wonderfully cheesy series involving Vampires and... armpit sex (no really). I think this series might be my new favourite after The Maze Runner.


Acquired This Week (Sat 6th - Fri 12th)
I thought I wasn't going to get any books this week as money has been pretty tight, however I suprprised myself - I found four short story compilations for £1, perfect for Halloween. And then when I went food shopping I found a bargain bin of teen books for just 99p! That's less that $2 a book U.S. people.


99p each guys. 99p.


Other Things
It's not something I really talk about but we actually live in a small, kinda rubbish council house (we rent it from the council in our area but we're so poor we don't pay rent. Literally the internet and books is my main luxury). This week we were finally able to go out and buy wallpaper and paint to decorate mine and my partner's room, my Gran's room and the living room! 
 
Yeah, I live with my partner and my Gran. Living situations are notoriously strange in England. My partner's Dad who's in his 50's lives with his mum, as well as my partner's aunt AND her partner.

Moving on, here's my wallpaper!


I plan to paper one wall and paint the rest. I hear that's in fashion right now. And yes, I promise pictures.
 
I've also been avoiding reading 1984 by cross stitching.
 
 
I haven't finished any project in months, so it felt good to finish this. Cross Stitching is my main passion after reading! If I ever find myself stuck in the past I'll be fine...


Read This Week (Sat 6th - Fri 12th)


Man Candy.
I'm about three quarters into 1984 now, so that should make an appearance on next week's STS, which will be a whole lot shorter, I hope. I have a whole pile of books after it I really want to read!

Stacking The Shelves (06/09/2014)

This week has been strange. At the moment my brain is trying to convince me that it is in fact, a Friday and not a Saturday but everything else is telling me Saturday so I'll roll with it. We finally got the kitchen finished and our cooker and washer back! So glad to have it finished.
I started making and listing cross stitch patterns again. Other than my blog and reading, making and selling patterns is something I spend a lot of time on and really enjoy. I just reached 500 sales on my Etsy shop!



Acquired This Week


Money is really tight right now, but with a Waterstones gift card and a visit to the charity shop, I managed to grab these! I heard that Poison Study is going to be expanded into a 6 book series, so immediately started trying to own all of Maria's books. I started the Glass series but never finished it.


Read This Week


I did not read as many as I last week (like, 7 I think) but I'm pretty happy with what I read. Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock wasn't quite what I was expecting but still a great read. I'm still plugging through the Darren Shan series! This is book 3, the writing is definitely improving.

Along For The Ride is... my first Sarah Dessen read! I think I chose a good one because I now want to go buy all the other books. Does this mean I'm part of the club now?

Wide Awake was good, but weighed down by the romance. It wasn't insta-love but I knew just from reading it that the author had written (maybe a few too many) slushy romances and it really got on my nerves after a while, reading about she nearly collapses when their tongues collide. Please stop.

Stacking The Shelves (30/08/2014)


This week has been one of the longest weeks ever, I swear. Our kitchen is nearly finished, with only small things like sealing the worktops to finish, thank goodness! We're getting our stuff back from storage on Monday, including our cooker. I am so excited about a cooked meal you have no idea.


We nearly ended up with orange paint. ORANGE.

My copy of Austenland finally arrived! I had to have a copy of this after seeing the movie and falling in love with JJ Feild. I've been waiting for it for about 3 weeks though. Asda got new books in and when they get new books, I buy them. How could anyone sniff at £4 for Trial By Fire a day earlier than it's release and Messenger of Fear for £6? Crazy people, that's who. I don't remember when I ordered Sever but I'm happy because it's the same size of the rest of my set - which is huge. I have no idea why these UK editions are so freaking big, they look ridiculous.


Read This Week (23rd Aug - 29th Aug)


I have magical reading powers and far too much time on my hands. Although I am starting to worry that people will think I'm lying about what I've read! My least favourite book this week was Walk Of The Spirits. A girl seeing ghosts sounds like my perfect read but this story just dragged on and on while the main character thought a lot about everything. Her whining put Bella to shame. My favourite reads were Killing Sound and Tandem, I honestly couldn't pick between them. Tandem was a multi-dimensional tale of princesses and forbidden love, while on the other hand, Killing Sound was a brutal, bloody read that will likely have me terrified of the London Underground for the rest of my life...

Stacking The Shelves (23/08/2014)


- I shamelessly begged my local bookstore on Twitter for a copy of Isla.
- I won £20 on a £1 scratchcard and went on a spree. (This spree)
- We got all the holes in the walls plastered. The kitchen looks like a mud hut, the whole thing was plastered.
- I hit my Goodreads goal - 100 books in a year!
- I sort of started accepting requests from self pubbed authors.
- The ones who have employed an editor anyway.
-Spotify conveniently lost all of my music. ALL OF IT. I emailed days ago but no reply.


Acquired This Week
Before you see what I bought this week... please don't judge me. Okay?

I received all of these in the mail. Most of these were purchased from abebooks, which I'm still completely addicted to. I never knew I could get books so cheap! Killing Sound is for review from Chicken House, one of my favourite pubs (Not the beer kind). I was excited about The Tea Rose until I saw the sheer size of it and now I'm just kind of scared.

Bought these in The Works (UK readers will have heard of it. Or are seriously missing out). These were 3 for £5, less than the cost of just one book. I'd recently seen Prince of Shadows and really wanted it, I've never read a (good) retelling of Romeo and Juliet before.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire - Voices - The Dead - The Fear
Charity shop finds - I've always been seriously good at finding stuff in charity shops. I'm pretty dedicated to - if I go anywhere new I research where they are visit. It's an obsession. I want a new set of the original Harry Potter books, as cheap and as new looking as possible, so this was a great find for £2.25!

The first thing I did when I won £20 on a £5 scratchcard this Monday was run to my Waterstones and grab a copy of Isla. I think they'd just got it in that morning! I wasn't sold on the new covers at first but they are lovely, I have to admit. They didn't have Anna so I ordered it and picked it on on Wednesday. I can't wait to binge read these!


Read This Week (Sat 16th - Friday 22nd)


I... didn't realise I'd read this much this week! Vampire's Assistant, Malory Towers and Among The Hidden were all quick reads so maybe that's something to do with it.

Birthday Haul

Look at all this! Most of this is from Stepping Out Of The Page, who is just made of awesome and Kate Bush lyrics. The silver owl is from my Gran. There's books too but those are below!


Books Hoarded This Week


Bought in town - Continuing my terrible habit of buying sequels to books I haven't read, I bought Predator's Gold - the sequel to Mortal Engines. It matched the first book perfectly so I had to have it! I want a whole set of Roald Dahl books, so I was happy when I found these for just 50p each, especially as they're like new.


Bought in Halifax - we went on a kind of one day holiday in Halifax to get away from all the work that's being done on the house. I found these while browsing the charity shops! I've already read The Magician's Elephant. This Isn't What It Looks Like perfectly highlights an irritation I have with books - unlabelled sequels. This is the fourth book but I had no idea.


Found in Asda (the UK's version of like, Walmart) - Having an Asda literally across the street from me is a dangerous, dangerous thing. I cannot stop buying books there - in my defense, £5 for a brand new shiny hardback?


In the mail - I'm still trying to buy more sequels, and complete my Uglies set! Sadly I won't be keeping Oblivion as I bought the wrong copy, I was expecting a paperback and this on my shelves will just look ridiculous.


Birthday Books - I opened these just this morning! I love history and Andrew Marr so I'm really looking forward to diving into these. I've wanted these exact editions of Grimm Tales and 1984 for months, I'm really excited about owning them.


Read This Week


Another eclectic mix this week, but all great reads! The weakest was surprisingly Touch Of Power, which I loved but found there was a bit too much infodumping.
