Stacking The Shelves (21/06/2014)

Books Bought This Week

I finally got a copy of Since You've Been Gone! I have read this so if you leave an "enjoy your new books" comment I will frown at you. I also took some photos of the amazing dust jacket too.

Books Read This Week (Sat 14th - Fri 20th)

Nowhere by Jon Robinson (4/5)
Anywhere by Jon Robinson (4/5)
The Miseducation Of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth (2/5)
The Moment Collector by Jodi Lynn Anderson (3/5)

Sadly, no stellar reads this week. Nowhere and Anywhere were really good books but they were a little let down by the writing. I spent most of the week reading the 480 page tome that was The Miseducation Of Cameron Post, only to want to chuck it out of the window in despair when I reached the final page. And The Moment Collector was just weird.

ReadItSwapIt

If you're in the UK you might have heard of ReadItSwapIt and if not, you want to go visit it immediately. It's a simple site where you list books, people can request books of yours they want if you want one of theirs too, you swap. Cute right? I added these this week:

If you want any of them, go request! I'm posting on Wednesday.

Dancing To This Week

Not so much dancing to as 'rocking slowly to, in a state of distress'. Yes, it was the emotional Game of Thrones finale this week but you'll hear no spoilers from me. (I can't wait for the next season though)

Next Week

Sadly, Angry Robot closed down it's imprints Strange Chemistry and Exhibition H this week, cancelling all it's upcoming titles. I only read 2 of their books but I loved them, so to celebrate this unique publisher (with some seriously gorgeous covers), next week is Strange Chemistry week here. Look out for reviews and a giveaway!

(Many Covers Monday will continue as planned)

  1. Oh, I'm sad Strange Chemistry is closing. :( I think I've only read one or two books from them...but it's sad when smaller imprints have to shut down. :(((

You and me both for 3/5 for The Moment Collector. For some reason I ALWAYS say it's the Memory collector. *headdesk* My brain rejects that title.

    1. Okay, The Memory Collector makes so much sense I'm going to have to convince my own brain that it's The Moment Collector from now on. *shakes fist*

  2. Since You've Been Gone is SO pretty! I loved the outdoorsy vibe from Amy & Roger's. I won "Since", but I never received it. :'( I was really looking forward to it!

Oh no! I've been seeing all these Strange Chemistry posts, but I didn't realized they've stopped production. I loved Zenn Scarlett and Cassandra Rose Clarke's books!

I'm actually doing a Strange Chemistry giveaway myself this week (here). It's so sad they're closing down: staff and authors are all awesome people, and they pubbed such interesting stuff.

I should check out your review of The Miseducation of Cameron Post -- I've got that one to read, and your rating sounds ominous...

    1. Yeah, I'm really sad for them! I don't think Angry Robot gave them enough time to 'carve out the niche' that they wanted - they weren't even 2 years old.

I'm not sure it was really Angry Robot making the decisions, sadly. I think Osprey (who own AR) might've had more to do with it. I've met nearly all the AR staff: they're great, really engaged with the books they put out, and they take care of their authors. Even if they were the ones to decide to shutter SC, I'll bet it wasn't an easy decision.

    3. Ah, I didn't know that. Well, whoever it was, I just think they should have given them more time.

  4. I am currently reading Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson and I have a feeling I'll be craving for more of Matson's writing, so I guess Since You've Been Gone would be a good pick for me.
I had not heard about ReadItSwapIt before, so I definitely check it out once I get back to UK.

    1. I think so! Although for me it's the opposite - I've read Since You've Been Gone but not Amy and Roger's Epic Detour yet. I've owned a copy for a few years now! I need to buy Second Chance Summer (I think that's what it's called) too.

  5. Ah, Since You've Been Gone! I have two hardcover copies of this – one of which is signed – and I've still not read it. Everyone loves it so much, I'm afraid I'll be disappointed in it. I guess there's only one way to find out... I do need to get to it soon.

    1. I don't think you'll be disappointed - I seriously, seriously loved it - the romance wasn't heavy and the story kept a great pace. I'm going to try and read all of Morgan's books soon!

  6. That's too bad about Miseducation. I've heard such mixed reviews about it. I'm dying to read Since You've Been Gone, but my TBR pile can now literally crush me, so I need to get through those first.

    1. I think Cameron Post is a good book for people with patience! For me, the long drawn out descriptions of her summer really got on my nerves. My TBR pile can definitely crush me and I'm still buying books... D:

I'm so excited to read Since You've Been Gone, my copy should arrive soon. I've heard amazing things. I didn't like Amy and Roger's Epic Detour as much as I loved Second Chance Summer. But I'm still so excited to read her latest book! :-) That swap site looks so cute too. I'll check it out.

  13. Bah, the Strange Chemistry news makes me so sad. I've read a handful of their titles and had more on my to read list. I can't believe how sudden it all went down. Very sad.

I really need to read Since You've Been Gone. I'm not that big into contemporary but everyone has loved it so I figure I should read it?

    Enjoy the books!

  14. This post is full of all kinds of awesome!

    1. I took your idea of showcasing the books I'm getting rid of, thanks for that by the way, and was contemplating what I could do with them: Then you go and mention ReadItSwapIt which sounds like the sort of thing I need right now!

    2. I can't wait to read Since You've Been Gone, interested to see what you made of that one when you read it? Those pictures have me eager to go buy a hardback copy even though I've got it on order at work. If I end up loving it then I will definitely be adding that beauty to my shelf.

    3. I had no clue Strange Chemistry was closing down, that's really sad to hear. We buy in all their books at work, they offer a lot of books that are different to a lot of YA that's out there.

I hope you have a great week and here's my STS if you get a chance/want to check it out. :)

I LOVED IT SO MUCH. it's a great summer read with a great romance without it being too romance heavy. Highly recommend!

  15. I had an eBook too! I knew I needed the hardback so grabbed t as soon as I could. You could host a giveaway! I know the authors would love that. Or if you're a little short of funds, make a post showcasing some of your favourite books from SC. Or ask a few authors for an interview!

Sad about Strange Chemistry, I think I've read 5 of theirs, three I enjoyed, two I wasn't that bothered about, and I have a box of 12 I won from them, which I haven't gotten around to yet.
