Many Covers Monday: A Discovery Of Witches
Today we're looking at the many different covers of A Discovery Of Witches by Deborah Harkness and choosing a winner! These (probably) won't be the complete collection of covers,
just as many as I can find or the most interesting from around the
world.
A richly
inventive novel about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch, and
the mysterious manuscript that draws them together.
Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has stumbled upon a coveted treasure lost for centuries-and she is the only creature who can break its spell.

(UK/US)
Love how the red in the UK cover looks like floating material!
(French/Portuguese)
If you combine these two covers...
(Serbian/UK)
...you get the Serbian cover! Very pretty. Also here's more smoky material for the UK Hardback.
(Bulgarian/German)
Neither of these covers are particularly inspiring me.
(Greek/Latvian)
But these covers are! These are so amazing. I don't think I've ever featured a Latvian cover before.
(Italian/Slovak)
"Il libro della vita e della morte" means "The Book of Life and Death". According to Google Translate anyway. Many of these titles have been changed.
(Czech/Dutch)
Both are similar to the US cover, but neither live up to it.
(Croatian/Romanian)
I'm definitely getting a Dracula vibe from these two.
Which was your favourite? Let me know in the comments!

My favorite one is the Portugues cover. I love city views and the one color palette is really pleasing to look at :). I also really like UK cover as it has the same city view. This book has on my wishlist for ages. Need to read it soon..
ReplyDeleteI'm a complete sucker for smokey material-y kind of covers, so it's a toss up between the two UK editions. Haven't read this one yet, but I've heard that it's really good :)
