Stacking The Shelves (02/08/2014)

Stuff That Happened This Week
  • I started reading Partials and discovered a Hunger Games ticket stub.
  • My long-suffering fiancee put my bookshelves up! I now have 30 glorious shelves.
  • I got a copy of Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock. FULL OF FOOTNOTES.
  • I started using random.org to select my next read using Goodreads!
  • I found AbeBooks (or rather, how cheap they are) and promptly bought about 8 books.
  • And then lost count of how many books I bought apparently.

New Bookshelves!

Bookshelf tour on the 16th August, I'll link to it on my STS post, on the same day. I hope you all enjoy it - I'm strangely nervous!

Bought This Week (Sat 26th - Fri 1st)

Hunger - Lies - Necropolis - Annexed - Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock - Witch Breed

Apparently it was a week of sequels for me, with the only non-sequel here being Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock. I'm really happy to get Witch Breed, which is book four and the final part of the Hell's Underground series!

Money Spent: £19.46 (Appox. $32.74)

Read This Week

Masque Of The Red Death - Dance Of The Red Death - Partials - Dreams Of Gods And Monsters

A note to whoever stopped by last week and assumed I'd read no physical copies - a computerised image doesn't mean I haven't read a physical copy, it just means that this is neater, okay? Good.

I re-read Masque Of The Red Death so I could finally read it's sequel. It wasn't what I remembered and a lot of the sequel actually frustrated me a lot. Two words: Love. Triangle. (Spoiler: That wasn't even resolved at the end of the book, I feel like there should be a third book.). Partials was oh-so amazing, a dystopia for the fans that are frustrated by a lack of world building and characters that have skills beyond the author's grasp. Dan Wells knew EXACTLY what he was talking about and yet all the science never went over my head. On the other hand Dreams was like wading through mud, as I commented often on Goodreads.

That's all from me this week! Next week's plans are to visit some more charity shops, get my cardboard READ letters some nice wrapping paper or tissue paper and to order more books from AbeBooks than I actually need... oh and at some point, actually pack as the storage people are picking it up next week.

  1. OMG YOUR SHELVES! YOUR BEAUTIFUL SHELVES! THEY ARE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN. *stops yelling* Sorry, yes, sorry. But really. They're gorgeous.

I loved Leonardo Peacock! And by "loved" I mean, found it seriously depressing. But hey. Matthew Quick is a fabulous author. I loved Partials too because of the intense world building. It only lost me at the bit were Kira was really intensely studying the virus. I mean...she's 16. So I found it kind of unbelievable that she was so mature/knowledgable. She acted like she was in her 20s or something... (and I secretly love Samm a lot) but I really enjoyed it! Fragments...not so much. But I'm dying to know how it ends and I totally need to read Ruins.

    1. I'M SO HAPPY YOU LIKE MY SHELVES, SERIOUSLY.

I actually was completely okay with the idea of a 16 year old knowing this stuff - I think it was all down to her being educated from an early age. It's been showing, particularly in Japan and China, that their kids have a much stricter education system and are more intelligent because of it. :D

  2. OMG YOUR BOOKSHELVES SERIOUSLY LOOK SO GOOD.

I hope that one day I'll have enough books to get bookshelves like yours as well. :D

Hope you enjoy all your new books!

  3. I need to get some new bookshelves as mine are collapsing due to too much being stuffed on each one. Wish I had space for a few more in the house! Enjoy your reads this week.

    1. We have that problem with one of our old ones! It's leading sideways, so my big sturdy bookcase I was using before these has been stuck next to it to try and stop it leaning so much. I think it's working!

  5. Wow...those bookshelves *_*
I'm seriously coveting them right now! There's so many...and do you get that nice satisfied feeling when you rearrange your bookshelves? I do. It's awesome, but really addictive so I do it ALL the time (I don't know how I'd cope rearranging 30 SHELVES every couple of weeks). Blimmin heck that's a lot! Oooh, AbeBooks...I've heard of them, but now I'll definitely check them out! Thanks for the pictures Vickie!

    1. I did get the satisfied feeling - and RSI! Apparently I have so many I was actually left with RSI in my wrist for a few days afterwards and it still feels a little dodgy. I plan to never earrange again and just keep it neat and tidy - and dust a lot.

      AbeBooks is AMAZINGLY CHEAP. Seriously.

  6. Don't forget The Winner's Curse! They're my favourite reads this year - so far. Admittedly I've never read anything either... I wanted to finish this series so I can start his new one!

  7. I actually wanted to get a shelf extension unit to add another set of shelves for the top - it's a good thing I didn't as after we measured we found they wouldn't fit! Curse these low ceilings. *grumble*

  8. I have shelf-envy, Vickie! That looks so good, and hey, it seems like there's a little more room for new books ;)
Your new books look great, too, I hope you'll enjoy them all.
Thanks for stopping by earlier. have a wonderful weekend.

    1. I have four shelves empty! Four! I spent the entire book arranging panicking that I wasn't going to have enough space left, I was so happy when I finished.

  9. Your Shelves! I want one just like those. I love the Gone books, I haven't finished the series yet but I loved the first three that I read! I'm a but mixed on Partials though. I think it appealed to me more because I live on Long Island but the idea had potential, and I agree with what you said though. The book was pretty good, just at times I got a bit bored. Hope you enjoy all your new books!

    1. Oh gosh, I really need to get on a series kick. I look like I'm doing well but honestly, Necropolis is book four of the series - and I read the first book about 5 years ago! I often read the first book and forget to read the others.

  20. I love the Billy bookcases, my sister has 8 of them in her home library and she bought them over 10 years ago! I need to get some as my current bookcases are all sagging in the middle - probably because they're stacked 2 or 3 deep on each shelf...

Glad to hear you enjoyed Partials, I've had a copy for a long time but not managed to get round to it yet. Will bump it up the pile a bit now :)

  27. *drools* I think most of the bloggosphere (including myself) and completely and utterly jealous of your bookshelves. Ohhh I've got the second book in the partials series, so I definitely think I need to get the first book and read it from what you said. I just finished Dreams, and I really liked it, but I just wish that there was something coming afterwards because of the Godstars and the Nithilam.... If you get what I mean. Happy Reading :)

I've just gotten ebooks for my kindle recently, so my bookshelf looks pretty much the same (but meh, there's not much space left there anyway :P).
