Weekly Update (24/02/2018)

While everyone else is doing Stacking The Shelves I've decided that NOT buying physical books would be a great idea, so here's everything else I'm doing!

Books Read This Week

I was so pleased to have started and finished the Chemical Garden series, only to be then told by a major publisher on NetGalley that they were declining my request simply because I'd read dystopia recently and the book I requested was Contemporary. I'm not going to lie, I'm annoyed. I feel like bloggers shouldn't be influenced certain ways. If I read exclusively adult fantasy and requested YA, fine. However all my recent reviews have been YA books.

Overall it's been an okay week for reading but I'm still waiting on a book that will blow my mind. The Chemical Garden series is incredibly disappointing, I've already forgotten about The Truth About Alice and The 5th Wave is so........... slow..........

Happy Anniversary!

I've been with this fellow idiot for 9 years now and at some point we should really get married and get a lot of cats. Mainly the cats part.

Quick Book Plug!

A girlfriend of Bear's (the hairy one above) friend wrote a whole book but it doesn't have many views or reviews, care to check it out?

I could not get on with The 5th Wave. I have to admit that it bored me...

    1. I'm so bored please save me. I'm only 5% into The Infinite Sea but I'm not sure I want to continue it, especially as a lot of people have said that this feels like filler.

  2. Oh wow, I certainly didn't realised that NetGalley decline in that way too? It is seriously weird.
And hey, Happy anniversary :) wow 9 years? That's really awesome :)
I hope you have a lovely week ahead!

    1. Apparently so! I'm choosing to avoid that particular publisher in future. And thank you!

  3. Sometimes publishers give ridiculous reasons why they decline a request on NetGalley, I agree.

I keep my fingers crossed for you to find a mind-blowing book soon. It's annoying when you only come across mediocre books for a long time.

I only have ebooks to show off this week too :)

    1. I want to get through the 5th Wave series so I don't think I'll have a mind blowing book soon, but maybe the conclusion will surprise me!

  4. I hate it when NetGalley does that. They decline your requests for books for random reasons. That's why I just stick with the Read Now option instead of requesting constantly. Great set of books you got here!

    1. Not a bad idea! The new books to request are always so enticing though...

  5. Hope you enjoy The 5th Wave. I didn't care a lot for it but plenty of people did so I'm probably an oddball. I say go ahead, get married and have lots of cats. We got married and chose to have dogs and it's worked out fine :)

    1. We have one cat at the moment, I've had her longer than I've had him! I definitely want to get married and get even more cats.

  10. I agree. The 5th Wave is slow. I think I only got about a third of the way through it before I gave up. It seemed interesting but I just couldn't keep reading with how slow it was.

That is definitely a weird reason for a request to be declined.

Happy Anniversary! Get married!! I'm going on year number 5 with my favorite guy and we're working on doing that this year! Lol. And yes!!! Get the cats! I love my cat! :D

    1. We're planning on getting married on the 10th Anniversary, next year! I hope your wedding is amazing, I'm hoping for a very small affair, I have too much anxiety for crowds.

  11. Happy anniversary! We are turning 9 this year too and I want lots of cats, but he's alergic - I guess I cannot exchange him now after 9 years.

Being rejected because lately you were into dystopia is so silly of them. I tried to read The 5th Wave but stopped because I just couldn't get into it.

    1. Oh no that's so sad, I couldn't live without cats in my life! I've finally got past 10% of The Infinite Sea and it's just okay. I'm not raving about the series yet.

  12. Oh wow... that is the weirdest reason to decline a book request. If the publisher is going to be like that, I doubt they'll find too many reviewers because most of us seem to be reading all over the place. Very few bloggers blog only one genre. Would be so boring to do that!

    1. I'm glad that people have agreed with me that it's weird, I was worried that people would immediately jump to the conclusion that I was just being a brat who wanted a free book!

  13. I have two fabulous cats and wish I had room for more. They are my best furry friends. The 5th Wave was slow for a while but it did finally speed up about halfway through. When I found out about the plot in the second book though, I decided not to continue. I hope it starts to appeal to you as you get further into it!

  14. I don't understand the approval/denial rationale by NetGalley. I read a fairly wide variety, and I was denied A LOT when I first started using it. Now, I don't even request books. I only search every few months through my auto-approval lists. Happy anniversary!! I definitely think cats is a good idea.
