Stacking The Shelves (09/08/2014)

Stuff That Happened This Week
- This week's Many Cover Monday featured upcoming books
-  I discovered that Jeremy Irvine turned down the roles of both Peeta and Four!
- This week marked the 100th anniversary of WW1. Candles were put in windows around Europe.
- I started watching True Blood. It's like Vampire Diaries on crack.
- Penguin unveiled the creepiest cover of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ever
- We found out that as well as needed our electric rewiring our 30yo boiler is d.e.a.d. Yeyness.
- Still overexcited about having shelf space, I bought rather a lot of books.

Bought This Week (2nd Aug - 8th Aug)

This is a perfectly reasonable amount of books to buy. Honest. I got some great bargains this week by buying The Eye Of Minds from Asda for less than £4, found some great bargains on AbeBooks, visited charity shops... Book buying is a full time job readers! My biggest wow moment came when I found an old Waterstones gift card I somehow hadn't used and walked out of the shop with Solitaire and The Rain for just £5.97 (about $10)!

Money Spent: £28.50 (about $48)
(Whoops?)

Read This Week

(Yes, I really read this many books in a week. No, you don't want to know what I sold to the Devil)

Bit of an eclectic mix this week, as I'm still letting random.org select my next reads! I enjoyed War Horse, but I really wasn't expecting it to be from perspective of the horse. Undone was just... the worst book I have read in about 4 years. Hated it. I absolutely loved In The After though! I can't wait to read the sequel. Pandemic was a great read, I was expecting it to be more Apocalyptic but it focused completely on the actual Pandemic, not the aftermath.

That's all from me this week! Next week is going to be very, very busy as we're getting our kitchen completely redone (cupboards, sink, the floor, everything!) and getting the electric rewired. We're not allowed in the house that day so we're going to camp outside - in a tent. In the garden. I plan a giant duvet/pillow nest with lots of books.

  1. Malory Towers...jeez that brings back memories for me! I read those books when I was a kid! I liked the books in the Darren Shan series though some were better than others. Happy reading!

    1. I think a lot of people did, I'm just slow to the party! I agree about the Darren Shan books, I think the first book was one of the weakest but did set the story up quite well. I have the whole set as I read most of them as a kid but never finished the whole series.

    1. Sadly I'm now avoiding them! I just don't like the endings at all, had a problem with the endings of all three of her books that I read. :(

  11. I really want to read The Kill Order, seeing as I enjoyed The Maze Runner (although that series did get a little too confusing sometimes). Pompeii also sounds really interesting. I hope you enjoy your books!

  14. Interesting haul!! I like the looks of "Bloomability", "Fragments" (but I have to read "Partials" first, lol), and "Solitaire". All your books look so gorgeous between those bookends! Nice pic!

I can't believe how FAST you read!! HOW do you do it? I'm lucky if I can get three books read in a month!

"War Horse" looks GREAT. I ADORE horses, and haven't read a book from a horse's point of view since "Black Beauty", so I'm very happy to have found this one!

Thanks for sharing, and thanks as well for commenting on my STS!! : )

  16. Great haul! :) It does look like you got a really great deal on all of those books. I never really have that much luck I always end up spending way more than I want too, but at the end of the day, it is books, so I can't complain too much. I still need to get around to reading Fragments. It bought it a long time ago, and just haven't got around to it.

  17. That is indeed a perfectly reasonable amount to spend on books, lol. You added some great books to your shelves. I did not really see the reason for buying The Kill Order. I did not really like the Maze Runner that much =/. Hope you will like it though! Happy reading, Vickie!

  19. Omg, no no no to that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory cover. That looks like fake barbies and sory of horrory though I don't know why. Gee. NOPE. I hope you like Fragments! I found the ending awesome but the beginning seriously slooooow. I'm still interested in Ruins though. :)

  21. So, I had no idea who this Jeremy Irvine person was (other than a crazy person perhaps). Who turns down Peeta and Four!? True Blood... ah, True Blood. I am so behind! I need to watch season 6 still. Have you read the books? And that cover of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... why? Seriously, why? I confess, I loathe Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in general, and now that cover fits with my feelings about the book, because I despise them both ;)

Ohh Fragments! I have that on my shelf too. It just looks so.... huge. Rain looks so good too, I want to read it as well. Good luck with the kitchen remodel (and the tent, I don't think I'd be a fan of the tent!) and have a great week :)

  24. The Rain sounds great! The idea behind it is really cool. I've heard awesome things about the Partial series, and I'm planning to marathon it eventually, too. I hope you enjoy all of your books :)

  25. True Blood = Vampire Diaries on crack. Hahahaha! Great description!

Uh-oh. Undone was on my TBR for quite a while. Before it was released I was so curious about it. Now, I've sort of lost the desire to read it. It's a pretty long book too isn't it, 350+ pages... yeah, I'm going to skip I think.

I really hope you love Fragments. I got Partials a while back, but haven't got around to reading it yet. I've seen lots of good things about the series, so *fingers crossed* it's good.

Enjoy all your new books, have a great week :)
