Stacking The Shelves (26/07/2014)

Today was the week of BIRTHDAY PREPARATIONS. But not normal people birthday preparations like balloons and alcohol - nope, I'll been making plans for my new bookshelves (like buying letters and cataloging books) that I'll be blogging about on the 16th August (my birthday is on an STS day which is pretty cool).

Also look out for a shelf tour on the 16th too...

Today I spent the whole day cataloging my physical book collection which took about... 10 hours. I was nearly dead by the end of it I swear. But, 418 books are now on Goodreads and I know how many I have to read too. And, I can finally start using random.org to choose my next read! Stupidly excited about that. My old books might finally see the light of day...

Stuff Bought This Week

I only got one book this week, and I requested it from ReadItSwapIt last week as well! I went shopping and just didn't fancy buying books (must have been the heat) so I bought clothes and things for my new shelves instead.

I was originally trying to buy READ for the paper letters but couldn't find an A I liked... so I bought BQQKS instead. You read that right, there were no O's so I bought Q's and hid the tail in the picture. I'll trim them later, of course. The READ letters were just 50p! I'm going to paper them with nice wrapping paper, you'll see them on the 16th too (I hope).

I had an idea in my head for a while, to make a bracelet for each of The Selection books. I finally found the time to hunt down the beads I wanted and made them! You can find more about them on my Tumblr post. I hope you love them because they took me AGES.

But yeah, I make bracelets.

Read This Week

Apparently the word 'Boy' was a theme this week!

  1. WOW Vickie! You are so creative! My shelves are not organized very neatly... I have classics / books for Uni on some shelves. Then I have a couple of shelves with really nice-looking hard-cover series, and the rest is just all over the place :)
I hope the Boys you got this week will entertain you ;)
    Happy reading.

Ooh, your birthday is three days before mine. Yay for summer babies! I look forward to your shelf tour. Well done on getting so organised too. You put me to shame! Looks like you've got some good reading done this week too. Unrest looks really good! I hope you enjoy it.

    1. I haven't had a choice in being organised to be honest - our entire house is getting rewired and we're putting nearly everything in storage! Not my precious books though, they're staying right here. We've still got to box loads and I just want to read... :(

  3. Happy early birthday! :) You're so well-organized. You're inspiring me to reorganize my bookshelves. I have one shelf filled with books I got at BEA... I need to make sure I have them all cataloged some way so I don't miss reading them. Most of the others I have are paper copies of books I've already read and loved. The one offs I haven't read are in my TBR jar. I'll get to those one day. Probably. :)

The bracelets are so pretty!! Very, very creative!

    Have a great week!

Can't wait to see your finished shelves! I really like the bracelet you made for Elite. It is my favorite color! Unrest's synopsis is so darn creepy and the cover is well kinda disturbing. Really want to read it though! Good luck with making a dent in your TBR ;) Happy reading!

  9. Your haul might have been small this week, but it was awesome! I love the letters and that you're birthday celebrations consist of organising bookshelves - that is something I would do. I want to catalogue mine too, but I can't imagine how long that would take. I'm excited for a bookshelf tour, will definitely need to remember to stop by for that. The bracelets are really great, they really match the covers! I think The Selection bracelet is my favourite of the 3, it's gorgeous and I want it! I hope you enjoy your reads this week :) Here's my STS.

    1. I've put the shelves up (early, heh) and I can confirm that arranging books in alphabetical order when you have 500 of them takes at least 2 days. And sore feet! I hope you can stop by for the tour. :D

  11. Oh wow! You were super busy! I love getting new bookshelves too. I'd love to have the ROOM for new bookshelves, but I exhausted all the available space to me. Really need to move out, but can't afford it right now. :(

Hope your birthday is extra special, because what can be better than bookish gift?!

    1. I was supposed to wait until the 13th of August, but who could wait for new bookcases when they're sitting right there waiting to be opened?! So they're up! Stacking the books on them is taking a very long time though.

  14. Cataloguing books on Goodreads and then using random.org… excellent idea! Ohh I might have to try letting random.org choose a few of my next reads. I end up spending way too much reading time debating which one to start next!

And Happy Early Birthday! Happy reading and have a great week :)

  16. Advance Happy birthday to you, Vickie! I wish you more books to come!

OMG! Those pictures are really lovely, Vicki! Add the fact that you even took the extra effort to make individual bracelets for each Selection book. Hands down to you! It goes to show that we, readers, have our own way of showing our love for books.

Can I hug your shelves? I only have a very small shelf at home and most of my physical books are already stored in drawers so I'm mostly reading from my e-readers. I hope you still have enough time to rest for the big day.

    Have fun reading!

    1. Ah, thank you! :D

You can try but there's so many of them now I can barely hug one... I hope you have a whole library to yourself one day! And a reading corner. Very important.

  19. Haha, I doubt that will ever happen for me! I just discovered Abe books and was so bowled over by how cheap everything was I've ended up ordering 6 books in one week... oh dear.
